in Snow Blowers

An interesting clip for you to check out. Hope you like it.

Here's a fresh video of my Murray with the Harbor Freight Engine on it. Runs smooth. I wanted to warm it up and let it run for a while. This week I want to give it the first oil change on the new engine. I'm going to use some Mobile 1 in it. Since it is new.

I thought you would like this video.

My Murray with a Harbor Freight Engine in Action. Engine took a while to warm up. Leave the choke closed for a good minute or two when it is this cold out. So when you open the choke the engine won't surge & hunt. Only Issue I found with it. Ran Scarily well for what it costs!

@SuperJetski1
Ummm… this motor is used a LOT with great results. Now seeing how this motor on sale is $109.00, could you please point me to a 209.00 Genuine Honda 6.5hp motor because I will buy them all day long at that price. The thing is that by the time many snow-blowers, tillers, ect made now are ready for a new motor… the rest is about shot. Like them or not, these are really not bad little motors for almost less than the cost of a car battery!

It’s been 2-3 seasons. How did he repower work out? How has the performance been? Have there been any problems with the engine? Are the unpainted governor and throttle parts standing up to getting wet? Any rusting? Thanks trouts2, David

The 8HP engine is overkill this 6.5 is more than sufficent. Everything lined up fine it was a 40 minute swap! Look for a new video of this machine in service in a day or two!

4 vinceleto December 15, 2010 at 3:31 am

I noticed this was originally a 8 hp machine. Is the 6.5 sufficient? Did the shaft match up easily? Any mod’s that need to be done other than just swapping the engines?

I have a 5hp MTD and this seems like a nice upgrade. Thanks in advance

I ran mine recently in 15 degree weather and it runs fine. Moves snow very nice and doesn’t bog in heavy snow like my tired Tecumseh. Who needs warm air intake? I was worried about that at first too but it runs nice. It’s on an old Sears direct chain drive blower.

6 SuperJetski1 December 15, 2010 at 5:06 am

off brand engines are made with way cheaper materials.

7 SuperJetski1 December 15, 2010 at 5:56 am

Your an idiot why not just get the real deal for a hundred bucks more and have it last forever

8 websuspect December 15, 2010 at 6:39 am

I want to do this with ours. See if you can figure out how to get the air to come in through next to the muffler so its warm air.

9 93zj6135 December 15, 2010 at 6:56 am

Did you run your engine without the air filter? Every snowblower i have seen doesn’t use one.

10 frostypaws12 December 15, 2010 at 7:21 am

How the heck did you get that engine to work! I got one and it didn’t work! Even the one I was exchanged didn’t work! 2 failed engines, how is everyone getting theirs to work but mine… blargh!

11 jazzicron911 December 15, 2010 at 7:30 am

If they are the same design, do they use the same quality materials or cheaper cast metals?

12 turdburglerl3 December 15, 2010 at 8:22 am

fuck all the chinky fucker loving people that buy snowblowers at LOWE’S !!!!! They all must be arrested now!!!

13 sonofjabba December 15, 2010 at 8:31 am

I haven’t run this thing all summer I’ll prep it sometime next week. It’s already getting cold! :D

14 JASONS1PLACE December 15, 2010 at 8:40 am

nice blower! i just installed the same engine on my old blower.

15 krankiev December 15, 2010 at 9:09 am

i hate everything made in china thats what killed the american economy- outsourcing. The engines are probably fine. But I still hate ‘em.

16 Znsane December 15, 2010 at 9:29 am

Just cause it’s chinese, don’t assume it’s junk. It’s a HONDA GX200 clone engine, any Honda GX200 parts work for it. Honda allows other chinese companies to copy their engines and sell them cheap. Also the actual Honda engines are also made in China. I love a cheap powerful engine, and if it breaks, parts are cheap, and so are replacement engines!

17 Znsane December 15, 2010 at 9:35 am

I’ve now removed the governor from the engine, and it’s EVEN BETTER. 50mph on a bicycle is no joke! These are EXCELLENT engines!!! BTW, it’s a HONDA clone, so you can get Honda parts real easy. affordablegokarts com has any upgraded engine parts you need. This is a Honda GX200 clone

18 eugesd December 15, 2010 at 10:18 am

im planing on adding it to my go kart, there some tutorials on the internet on how to put it on

19 Znsane December 15, 2010 at 11:17 am

I used one of those 6.5 HP engines with a hilliard clutch on a bicycle pusher, and the power is amazing! No matter what gear ratio, the motor has LOTS of torque. It would make a great kart motor.

20 krankiev December 15, 2010 at 11:49 am

Lol, they cost more where I live… what I found odd was the 13 hp is actually 50 bucks cheaper than the 11 hp engine… retards?

21 sonofjabba December 15, 2010 at 12:08 pm

Toss it out and buy another one. For 99 bucks they are disposable.

22 sonofjabba December 15, 2010 at 12:58 pm

Not really a Cart Motor. You’ll have to make some throttle modifications for usage on a cart. It has a lot of guts and runs great. They don’t have a large oil capacity PLEASE CHECK YOUR OIL before you run!

23 Yoshi766 December 15, 2010 at 1:20 pm

hey man im planning on buying that engine, is it good for a go kart or is it crappy?

24 krankiev December 15, 2010 at 1:30 pm

One more thing, What are you gonna do when the chinese piece of shit breaks? Where you gonna find parts?? That’s the only reason I didn’t buy one for my snowblower.

25 krankiev December 15, 2010 at 2:25 pm

It will make it leak like crazy horrrible idea

26 GarrettJDB December 15, 2010 at 2:51 pm
